Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris was born on October 20, 1964. She is an American politician. She is also the first vice president to be female and highest-ranking female official in U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. As a member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as the attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and also as a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. She started her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. She was then recruited to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected district attorney of San Francisco. She was elected Attorney General of California in 2010, and was she was re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior member of the United States Senate from California from 2017-2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As Senator, Harris was a vocal advocate for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her name is well-known due to her direct questions to Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
